Cashmere Care – Washing Instructions

Cashmere care is essential as this is a more delicate type of wool. Handwash your cashmere in lukewarm water using Woolite or its equavilent. Do not rub or twist as this may cause pilling. Rinse your cashmere in clear cool water until all the soap is removed, squeezing gently without wringing. Squeeze away excess water in a towel. To dry, leave the garment to dry naturally away from direct heat and sunlight. Do not spin or tumble dry. When dry, iron on a cool setting using a damp cloth or steam.

Pilling

Cashmere is one of the finest natural fibres in the world and is combed from the undergoat of Chinese and Mongolian goats. Knitwear made from this precious and delicate fibre is luxurious to wear but requires a little more care than knitwear made from coarser wool.

After wearing your cashmere a few times you might find small balls or “pills” are caused by some of the loose fibre tangling together as areas of your garment are rubbed during wear. The “pilling” is not indicative of inferior quality. Pills can be easily removed by using a cashmere comb. By doing this the garment will soften. Cashmere like wine improves with age if cared for properly.
